R. Ben Roux

R. Ben Roux is committed to advocacy and service to others, especially the deaf, hard of hearing and people with disabilities. In addition to serving on the Signing Savvy Sign Language Advisory Board, Ben is also an Advisory Board Chairman of the City of Boston Mayor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities. He is currently working on an U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) grant application focused on measuring the equality impact effectiveness of the Americans with Disabilities Act. These initiatives are particularly meaningful to Ben as he is profoundly deaf.

Ben holds a Masters of Science degree in Health Informatics from Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems degree from Gallaudet University.

Ben is currently an IS Solution Engineer II, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Service Catalog Manager and Principal Investigator for Health Informatics - Using IT to Improve Care for Patients with Disabilities.

He was previously an Oracle Database Administrator, Technical Services & Operations Department at Partners Healthcare System where he developed policies and procedures to ensure compliance with established standards and regulations. Part of Ben’s job was to create appropriate documentation and set strategic direction.

Ben's career includes three years in Washington DC serving in the Peace Corps’ Office of Volunteer Support and Office of Medical Services. Prior to that, Ben worked for National Reciprocal Insurance Company in its medical malpractice division. There, he led the full-cycle development of software systems.

Ben grew up in the residential school settings both in New York and Florida. He also spent some time in a mainstream school setting in the middle of his K-12 education. Ben is a fluent signer who uses sign language as his primary mode of communication.
