Isn't the sign for "SCHEDULE" also the ASL sign for "CALENDAR"?

No. Think about it this way, if you walked up to a Deaf person and said "give me your schedule" what would they hand you? Probably not a calendar. But if you fingerspell the word "calendar" and then add the sign for "schedule" would make much more sense.

I guess my confusion comes from the explanation of "SCHEDULE" given to me, that it was a page with cross-hatches -- a CALENDAR, with the days represented by the fingers outlining the lines of the calendar on a page.

Yes, I agree, a schedule is often kept on a calendar but calendar is not interchangeable with a schedule.
