Your sentence above "I HAVE to do my homework" is really saying. "I MUST work on my homework" and should be signed that way. This is the sign to actually physically have something in your possession.

correct usage?

Could you sign "I NEED to do homework" instead of I must?

English has a lot of synonyms - very few in ASL

"Need to", "must", "have to" are synonyms. We have several ways to say it in English, but really just one way to say it in ASL.
