I know this sign as the 'W's which go from the shoulders to the waist facing outwards and wiggling down. Is this a known variant?

I've not seen it signed the way you describe, Laura, that could be a regional variation, but I have seen "weather" signed the way "wind" is, but with "w" hands, (an initialized sign), and it was how people who are deaf and members of the Deaf Community, (strictly ASL) signed it.

Funny I was checking on my weather signing and I learned it from a member of the Deaf Community who was talking about weather to my son...he signed it just the way Laura described...I'm from Florida...something to consider, but I was making sure I had it correct.

I also learned to sign weather the way Laura did. However, that sign is more of an esl sign. In the deaf culture you would typically just use the sign associated with what he weathers current state is. For ex. say I dont like the weather, I wouldn't sign the word weather I'd specify to whether it's rain, thunder, or sun I don't like.
