It seems that using 2 fingers, like CUTE, is far more common than using the entire hand...in fact, aside from here, I cannot find another instance of using the whole hand for SUGAR.  Lifeprint, Handspeak, and several dictionaries show two fingers, while SIGNING NATURALLY 7-12, by DawnPress emphasizes two fingers for SUGAR and whole hand for SWEET.  Can you confirm that using the whole hand is not simply a local variation?

You will see that we added the 2 finger variation to SUGAR as the ASL 2 or second variation.  You will see either sign used throughout the country.  We don't believe it is just a local variation.

The Gallaudet Dictionary of American Sign Language lists both the two-hand and the closed 5-hand as variations for sugar.
