This ths a Word List of the sign vocabulary that goes along with the book The Big Orange Splot, by Daniel Manus Pinkwater.  This book explores the concept of "normality", and how everyone thinks that everything being the same and simple and "neat" is the proper way to do things, UNTIL someone steps out of the box and tries following their dreams.  It is a very cute book.  It allows it's readers to delve into the fantasy world of exploring one's dreams, taking chances and stepping outside of "the norm".

This book opens up a lot of teaching opportunities.  It will allow for some interesting discussions and even some creative art projects allowing students to illustrate drawings of their own homes based on their dreams. There is also a portion of the book that uses a lot of figurative language to explain how the people think the one neighbor who paints his house is crazy. (Flipped his lid, lost his marbles) Those words and phrases alone could be a very interesting language lesson for deaf students since the signs alone (if signed literally) would be confusing.
